I went to translate one of the Arduino hx711 libraries (there are three around very similar).
I summarized that a 14bit MCU is not tailored to cope with such library. The library works well as a computer compiled wiring code would do, rather limited when considering to compile on a 8bit MCU. It seems that the ATmega328 can handle such bloat.

So my attempt was impossible to complete as much as there is an array of Dword, which cannot fit on banked memory like the OP MCU.

For the midrange family there are some studies to carry out. First is to stabilize the reading. As such the library propose a bubble sort on the taken array of samples.
For the current MCU there aren't chances to collect into 32 bit array. So there might be some algorithm to select from the HX711 ADC reading. Currently I used just an average of 40 samples.

Second operation is to define offset point when the load cell is unloaded. So when applying a known weight there will be a calibration factor to multiply the following reading.
Last is the tare which is taken as starting point then the following variation are considered something on the scale. There might not be a negative value, unless anything is removed after setting the tare.

So in deep it seems that the OP source still lack of functionalities to be used as complete project.

The location is anything that you may compute, in a byte size. The Ewrite command will accept it. See on newest version manual around page 383, or using FIND Ewrite

I'd like to see a version number on the manual

The enhanced 14-bit core devices are capable of using Dword arrays.

Some of the newer types do have more RAM and teh compiler uses their linear mechanism when using indirect operations.

The standard 14-bit core devices are now 20, or so, years old and "very" much out of date, so any newer commands or variable types I add to the compiler will not cater for them because they are very much outdated. It would be like making a brand new Windows application still compatible with Windows 3.1! Theya re that much out of date.

The newer enhanced 14-bit core devices are still rather crap for being designed in the 21st Century IMO, but they do have some extra features that make them useful and inexpensive. However, for serious, or large, applications it is always better to use an 18F device, or better still a PIC24 or dsPIC device.

My drawers and internet informations are full of them. Opting to newer models it may take another decade, when my stocks will end.
Some 1(2|6)F18.* (<<regex here) are landed in my stock, but according to their datasheets are a decade old too.

I don't blame about the updates are leading to brand new models, but how many hobbyist are using the compiler, worth to keep some antiquities ?
