    Default Protected Words

    I'm a complete newbie using Proton Basic although I am very familiar with MPLAB IDE and Assembler programming

    When I add 'Create_Coff=True'
    to my first simple Basic Program and then try to compile it I get the Error Create_Coff is a protected word and cannot be used in this position. Ive tried moving to different positions but it doesn't work anywhere.

    I am only following the instructions in the Proton Compiler Manual to create a Common Object File so that I can simulate within MPLAB IDE but I cannot get it to compiie with this directive included. If I edit out the directive it compiles and generates assembly and Hex files etc.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    I think you have to write it this way: -

    Code:
    Declare Create_Coff = On
    or

    Code:
    Declare Create_Coff = True
    On or Off, or True or False or 1, 0

    are all acceptable. Just add `Declare'
    Regards

    Joseph

    Has by any chance this need to prefix with Declare been added in recent versions of Proton Basic as I have been looking at example basic programs and this is not used.
    For Example this extract from a users program (I2C serial LCD interface) has 4 undeclared protected words at the start. These also generate the same compiler error.

    Device = 12F675
    XTAL = 4
    RSOUT_PIN = GPIO.2 ' Serial out pin
    RSOUT_MODE = TRUE ' Set TRUE mode
    SERIAL_BAUD = 9600 ' Baud rate of 9600
    RSOUT_PACE = 1 ' 1ms delay between characters

    etc. etc.

    Yes, the following need Declare in front of them: -

    RSOUT_PIN
    RSOUT_MODE
    SERIAL_BAUD
    RSOUT_PACE

    The following there is NO need to make Declare in front of them: -

    Device
    XTAL
    Regards
