Default One mans meat is another mans poison

When I click on Whats New and the answer is nothing I feel slightly deflated which makes me wonder at the mind set of the admin who thought "Hello, great news !" was an appropriate response. Sort of cup half full, half empty, but not really.

I very nearly posted that exact same comment a while back, yes I feel the same.

By the way did you hear the engineers version of the glass half empty, glass half full..... The glass is 50 percent bigger than it needs to be :-)

When I was feeling really down, and was asked if my glass was half full or half empty, I replied that my glass was broken.

The message you see when there are no new posts to view is customisable. I'd be happy to receive some suggestions as to revised wording.

many of you will know that I also run the PICBASIC forum, on that forum the users suggested a peom and other text, which can change from time to time. Maybe you'd like something like that.

Incidentally, in the OLD version of the forum, when there were no new posts to view, instead of a message, you were directed to the advanced search page.

    Example: http://www.protonbasic.co.uk/search....e=vBForum_Post

I can , if you wish, revert to that process.

Or I could change the response to whats new, to show new posts made in the last day, if there are no NEW posts since your last visit.

    Example:

    last days posts

    or last week

I like 'What's New', it's the first thing I click on each visit. I like the idea of showing the last days posts if there is nothing new to show.

    Hi Lester,
The list of unread posts that used to be available when browsing a thread have gone. I usually hit "What's New" to get me started and then click on the threads showing above the post I have just read. Saves a bit of time rather than going back to "What's New". Any chance of getting them back?
    Cheers
    John

John, can you try this URL and let me know if it gives you the desired response. You need to use it when there are new posts to view.

I didn't explain myself very well Lester. When using my phone at night (I'm pretending to watch TV and keep my wife company) keystrokes are a pain so brevity wins out.
Previously (i.e. prior to your adjustments to the "What's new" no posts result) my process for reading posts was this.
    1) enter forum using a shortcut: http://www.protonbasic.co.uk/forum.php
    2) click "What's new"
    3) read first post
    4) in the area above "Post new thread" there was a horizontally scrollable list of unread posts.
    5) I would click on the next message to read in the scrollable list. I didn't have to go back to "What's new".
    6) the next post would show and I could read it and the scrollable list would be updated with the remaining unread posts.
    7) and so on until there were no more posts in the scrollable list.

Maybe I've changed something in my setup on the forum.
    My browser is Firefox.

    John

The new post list is not there any longer, FF too.
I'd like if the "New Posts" button becomes a drop down combo, so the header will remain tidier and more things are visible, also while browsing from a smartphone. So it would be great improve whether a shorter header is applied.
