    I just wish I had, had the time and incentive to write books for Proton and Proton24 in the past.

    I have a few chapters of "The Proton Experimenters Notebook" that I started a few years ago, but the internet has killed books, and a week after a book is released, it is copied and pirated, so the months it takes to write one is not worth it unfortunately. I would still like to write some books again, but maybe make them the "dreadful" ebooks with a few projects in multiple volumes etc... Maybe then for a few dollars, more people will purchase it before it is simply thrown to the internet. Such a sad state for once lovely books. :-(

    Les,

    I think you should write the book (in PDF for example) and put it on sale. I'll buy you a copy. I would also translate the book into Spanish so that you have more potential clients.
    Regards,
    Gamboa

    Amod,

    Please do not take it that I am going to be rude.

    However, I already said this and I am going to say it again.

    You never put up a piece of code, working or not, and put it here for others to help you. What you do is ask for ready code or for someone to write the code for you.

    You are not `new' to all this coding. There is no book to exactly detail what you will need, however, it takes time and some brain to achieve your goal.

    With regards to the peak hold with a single push button it is fairly simple. Put on a small piece of code, just a small working code, try to turn ON and OFF an LED with a single push, and if you do not succeed there is help on it's way, but again, you have to put some brains otherwise you will never learn.

    Once you have this LED turn ON and OFF with a single push button, the same code could be used for you to make the peak detection.
    Regards

    Joseph

    Which one will support a book from Les on https://www.indiegogo.com/ or https://www.kickstarter.com/ ????

    Maybe we can help to get the incentive he is needing to do it!!

    We see right now 139 users online, 342 members and users ever online was 2,844.

    I think we all will want to have a copy of "The Proton Experimenters Notebook".

    Quick and dirty, add to your source:
    Code:
    Dim PP1 as Word System
    Sometimes I got these compiler oversights

    Amod, you are setting portd.0 as an input but testing portd.7
    Look up TRIS in the manual.

    Amod,
    Three things for you to keep in mind
    1) when declaring TRIS use binary as it makes easy to see which ports you are setting as inputs
    2) put comments into your code so you know what you are doing later
    3) use PICconfigurator to set the fuses

    Code:
    ;-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ;**** Added by Fuse Configurator ****
    ; Use the Fuse Configurator plug-in to change these settings

    Device = 16F877A

    Config FOSC_HS, WDTE_OFF, PWRTE_OFF, BOREN_OFF, LVP_OFF, CPD_OFF, WRT_OFF, DEBUG_OFF, CP_OFF

    ;**** End of Fuse Configurator Settings ****
    ;-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Xtal = 10

    All_Digital = True

    TRISA=%00000000 'this has a decimal value of 0

    TRISD=%10000000 'this has a decimal value of 128 and sets portd.7 as input

    Dim PP1 As Word System 'needed for unknown reason
    Dim btnvar As Byte 'workspace variable for button
    btnvar = 0 'button expects this to be set to 0 initially

    main:
    Button PORTD.7,0,255,250,btnvar,0,nopress  'PortD7, 0 when pressed, 255 debounce only
                                               '250 repeat time not used, btnvar is workspace
                                               '0 branch if not pressed, npress jump
    nopress:
    GoTo main
