Default Serin signal line High or Low

For SERIN signal line, should it be pulled High or Low? Does it depend whether it is True or Inverted?

    Hi Dave,
I assume you mean in the idle state, a quick google showed this so I would say it should be low. I would say this is after the level shifter which I believe inverts the signal.
The RS232 signals are represented by voltage levels with respect to a system common (power / logic ground). The "idle" state (MARK) has the signal level negative with respect to common, and the "active" state (SPACE) has the signal level positive with respect to common.

For hardware, a UART input/output normally idles high.

With RS232, the MAX232 inverts the signal.

You are right Tumbleweed, As far as the PIC is concerned when using some kind of RS232 driver the PIC pin should be pulled high. At least the receive line. I often use a pullup resistor on the receive line when using an external but not continuously connected RS232 driver. This also eliminates false RS232 data bit from being received.
