That is why I only use my Pickit2,3,4 and ICD3 for flashing boot loader code and some hex into small 6 pin Pic's. If it has a USART I use it for boot loading. Much faster as well...

    Hi,
Thanks for all the replies, I think I am going to get one just to see if I works.
The bit do not understand from some of the replies is
It needs firmware loaded everything a device is changed
I have had to reload the firmware on several of my Pickit2's quite often now and just thought it was getting on a bit and losing its marbles. Is this the case for every different device on the Pickit4

    Regards,
    Bob

Supposedly not. The Pickit4 and ICD4 are supposed to have all the device programming info internal so it doesn't reload it each time you change devices.

As you change versions of MPLABX it'll likely update the programming though as it adds new devices/fixes support.
How well they have all this working is up for debate. There's still a number of features with the Pickit4 that don't work.

That NSDSP device is quite expensive for what it is, and you need a few of them for development, because they didn't make a single board with different voltages! I wonder why???? Maybe to con the users into buying different boards that contain the same chip, but don't change 3V3 to 5V or vice-versa etc... A simple process!
