    Default PICKitPlus Forum

    PICkitPlus

PICkitPlus is a total replacement for the existing Microchip PICkit2™ and PICkit3™ Windows GUI software. The PICkitPlus software provides a journey to the PICkit2™ and PICkit3™ to support the latest generation of Microchip microcontrollers.

PICkitPlus for the PICkit™ 2 and PICkit™ 3 applications are called PICkit 2Plus, PICkit 3Plus and PICkitCommandLine.

The intent of PICkit 2Plus and the PICkit 3Plus is to support programming of any 8-bit PIC microcontroller. The capabilities include:
    • Three software elements
      • PICkit 3Plus Graphical user interface application. Specific solution for the PICkit™ 3 In-Circuit Debugger/Programmer
      • PICkit 2Plus Graphical user interface application. Specific solution for the PICkit™ 2 In-Circuit Debugger/Programmer
      • PICkit Command line user interface application. Supports both PICkit™ 2 and 3 In-Circuit Debugger/Programmer
    • New programming protocol support for new classes of Microchips PIC microcontrollers
    • Updated and managed 8-bit Microchips PIC microcontroller database
    • Improved user interface
    • Improved Help, guidance and direct access to the 8-bit Microchips PIC microcontroller database
    • USB (Full speed 12 Mbits/s interface to host PC)
    • Great Cow BASIC IDE and MPLAB IDE-X compatible for programming and debugging.
    • Supports low voltage to 2.0 volts (2.0v to 6.0v range)
    • Read/write program and data memory of microcontroller including EEPROM and HEF/SAF
    • Erase of program memory space with verification
PICkitPlus for the PICkit™ 2 and PICkit™ 3 programmers provided the following benefits:
    • Windows 10, 8.x, 7 and XP support
    • HEF/SAF support
    • Improved parts discovery with protection
    • Improved installer
    • PICkit™ 2 and PICkit™ 3 In-Circuit Debugger/Programmer support in one package
    • Support for 8-bit microcontrollers such as the 16f18xxx, 18f2xKxx ranges and more - the intent is to support all 8-bit microcontrollers.
    • Improved support by using common code across both the PICkit™ 2 and PICkit™ 3 In-Circuit Debugger/Programmer
    • Access to the online managed parts database within the user interface.

Interesting as this appears to provide updated support for old PICKit2 and PICKit3's. Does it support a command line interface to provide one click programming from within the IDE?

Evan, maybe you can expand on this feature, cand the CLI be used from within our IDE ?

The intent is that the CLI supports any IDE. The CLI is a new application with no legacy code. This means we are the design authority for the application.

We should test to ensure full operation but if the IDE can make a programmer CLI call with parameters then it should work as expected.

Please the user guide to provide more insights. See http://www.pickitplus.co.uk/document...KitCommandLine User Guide.pdf

PICkitPlus is a major update of the Microchip PICkit 2 and Microchip PICkit 3 programmer software to support the latest Microchip microcontrollers, support Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 10.

PICkitPlus is not simply an update to the microcontroller database, but contains new application code and new procotols to support programming the latest Microchip microcontrollers.

PICkitPlus includes many new features and fixes including a new CLI application - please see http://www.pickitplus.co.uk/document...er%20Guide.pdf for the current set of parameters.

The plan is to create a specific build in conjunction with Lester and move support to this forum. I am very pleased to do this.

Meanwhile, pop over to www.pickitplus.co.uk for the link to the donation pages. We then send the user specific very shortly afterwards.

  9. Pickit Plus does work great with PDS, including from within the IDE.
I set up two programmer entries; one for 5 volts and one for 3.3 volts. I used the string:
    Code:
    -w -e -a5 -pPIC$target-device$ -f"$hex-filename$" -mpce -d5
    for 5 volts and
    Code:
    -w -e -a3.3 -pPIC$target-device$ -f"$hex-filename$" -mpce -d5
for 3.3 volts. It works like a charm, PLUS, you can plug in either the Pickit 2 OR the Pickit 3 using the same programmer entry.
I wish I had this a long time ago. It's much better than the original from Microchip. ....and no, I don't work for the people who developed it. I'm just a happy user.
