    Hello
My whole hope is both Crownhill and Les make enough money to keep Proton at the top of it's game, I wouldn't want to some day see Proton abandend
as one of the Hundreds of languages in the parts bin of History.
I do a lot of work with kids and I know I can set them down and have them type a small program in Proton in just a short time, not so in C,or C++ this is not going to happen.
Also I know that Microchip keeps tossing the anchor out of there speed boat, how do other compilers keep up to what Les does for us, i don't know.
I like the changes being made as of late, it is like a new energy, and of course all the faithful Forum wizards the make the Forum the best on the Web.

    enough of my verbal diarrhea

OK, I have turned off that "feature"

It costs the user nothing to search and buy via the Amazon search, but we would receive a small commission if the search is used to initiate a purchase.

    Every penny helps!
    anyway, its no longer there.

is there a noticable improvement in page load times?

I cannot say that I noticed any slowing down of the forum due to the ads, although I am not sure if that is down to network speed or the browsers AD blocker as I only a white space with a text link at the bottom.
It would be a shame if the forum went ad if ADs keep it running I am fine with that and if the is the level of AD intrusion then ADs or no ADs has little impact on me either way. That said for the aforementioned token amount of 10 as year I would be willing to pay for a two tier system AD/AD free system.

Thanks to all those that have posted a comment - even though it is pretty much the usual crowd.

I too dislike the advertisements, I never wanted them, it was something I thought i'd try to see what the response would be from forum suers and to see what elevel of revenuse could be raised.
    Results so far:
    • The Amazon links seem to be very unpopular, a very low level of click throughs, generating no income. No one signed up for the Amazon prime trial and thus no revenuse was generated there.
    • The Google ads, do seem to be quite popular, with thousands of clik throughs generating some level of income.
The "usual crowd" would pay to have ads removed. though the level of income raised would not cover the cost of setting up and maintaining a dual tier system.

A possible solution: (not sure i can get this up and running - i have not looked into it fully)
A paypal donate to cover costs, with a target figure. When the target is reached the ads dissappear.
I can run additional ads to encourage donations, maybe in plkace of Amazon adverts- since they are so disliked.
Maybe I can remove ads for those that have donated - not sure about that though.

    Proposed Features:
    - Allow users to donate suggested amount with the option to change it to any amount
    - Minimum amount accepted 5GBP
    - Currency GBP
    - Payment via Paypal or Crownhill Website
    - Donation Display to show total amount donated
    - Users that donate do not see affiliate adverts, though they would still see ads like the Buy Proton or PICKit ads

    Thoughts???

    Lester,
Paypal suits me best from the other side of the world although I do have a multicurrency card as well which would be fine to a secure site - therein lies a setup problem I reckon.
Any of your solutions are fine. I reckon the absence of ads would be an extra encouragement for some so the original idea of subscribers pay 10 quid and don't get ads seems the simplest from a user's perspective. Please yourself about a running total - I don't need that.
    Cheers from Oz

Paypal suits me, this forum is well worth a decent donation every year.
Where does Les fit into the income generated because he is also a Very Important Person?

I'd be happy with PayPal too.

With regard to Les, l think that is another matter. You're quite right though, it would be nice to sort out some formal arrangement so both individuals and businesses could reward Les for his efforts. I know that donations can be made by individuals, but sometimes larger companies are not happy about that type of arrangement.

  11. Maybe you should re read my post of 24th January 2018, 10:09 in which I attempted to clarify the situation.

At the moment there is little or no revenue from Proton sales. What revenue there is is split and equal provision is made for Les and Crownhill as per the legal agreement.
Currently the forum and Proton runnng costs are not covered by the revenue generated by sales. An increase in sales would solve the issue.
The Price of Proton is now at it lowest ever. We need to see an increase in sales.

This discussion stemmed form the effort I made to raise soem revenue to offset the costs of resource used to provide the forum.

I'm happy to hear of alternative solutions to fund the forum, READ MY POST 24th January 2018, 10:09
I'm happy to pass the rights to Les, should he wish take the products forward.
