    Default HPC Development Board DM164136

Has anyone used this Microchip platform for PIC18?
Is it essential to use the MPLAB Xpress to program the PIC?
Can the USB port be used as PC connection => UART?
    Thanks for the info.

In the schematic the TARGET PROG connector is drawn. I do not see it in the printed circuit?????
    Any comment?

The USB connector is only for the builtin PKOB (PicKit On Board) debugger/programmer. It doesn't connect to the target pic at all.
The PKOB circuit is a scaled down version of the Pickit3, so you can use MPLABX or the IPE to program the target.

The TARGET PROG "connector" is on the rear of the board. It's a SMT PCB pattern (with no holes) located on the edge of the PCB.
You could solder a 0.1" 6-pin SIL header to it.

    Thanks George,
So if there is not a UART connection to the PC having a connector and a CPU that could do this function, this board is worth almost nothing. I have not seen the Xtal on the picture neither in the schematic? Nor do they comment on it in the documentation. Conclusion is not of interest.

There's no crystal or provisions for one on the board.

It has two mikroBUS sockets so you can add pretty much any type of interface to it... RS232, USB-UART, RS485, etc along with all the other Click boards.

    It's pretty handy actually.

    Forgot to mention...

The real downside to this board is that the onboard programmer only supports certain chips (mostly the 18FxxK series) so that's definitely something to keep in mind. It'll do a few others but not many.

You can always use an external programmer by soldering a header onto those TARGET PROG pins, but that sort of defeats one of the main features of the board.
