    Default Support for Les... a change of heart?

    I don't know how many people watch the Proton Facebook page, I for one don't but I do get the occasional notification when someone has posted. It appears that a PayPal account has been set up to allow payment to Les Johnson. Below I quote the conversation which seems to have been posted by Eilsel Nosnhoj...

    I am continuing to develop both the Proton and Proton24 compilers, however, funds are limited so my time is taken up trying to create funds for the compilers and future developments based upon the compilers. I would be so grateful for any donation to try and make the compilers live forever :-) I'm adding as many new PIC and PIC24 devices as I can to the compilers, but these take time to test etc, so they are not being added to the compilers as quickly as they used to be, again, because of limited funds available. I'm also currently investigating making ProtonAVR, so we have the Proton BASIC compiler for AVR microcontrollers as well. I'm also re-developing both Amicus18 and Amicus24 boards for the Proton compilers. Many thanks.... Les

    I don't know if this is genuine until I see confirmation on this forum from Les but if it is I welcome his change of heart and will be one of the first to make a donation. The value of Les's continued work and progressive upgrades have paid many times over for the initial outlay.

    Me too John. I was just about to make a donation and thought I'd better wait for Les to confirm it's really him. I bought Proton many years ago and haven't paid a penny towards the many upgrades. Doesn't seem fair to me that Les should do all this work for nothing.

    It is for real, and unfortunately, I can not hold my head up any more and say no!

    I have so many ideas for the compiler, but simply don't have the funds to promote them. I have one very special idea for a Proton and Proton24 Amicus board and I will release the info when I'm closer to finishing it. I'm also working on ProtonAVR for AVR devices, and now have a working compiler, but it still needs quite a bit of work for the variable types and the in-built library routines etc. But I can do a simple:

    Device = ATmega328P
    Declare Xtal = 20

    Dim MyVar as Word
    Dim MyVar2 as Word

    MyVar = MyVar / MyVar2

    Simple I know, but we have to start somewhere. LOL And it means I do have the asm working, so it's just a matter of learning the AVR mnemonics a little better.

    Perhaps this thread needs to be made "sticky". Bob

    OK. Sent you some. hope more will follow so you can continue the good work. I agree the link to donate should be taken out of the thread and placed somewhere more noticeable.

    Sounds good. I've got to wait until my bank transfers some money into Paypal - takes 2-5 days, I don't know why it takes so long. Then I'll be contributing.

    Now I don't feel so much like a moocher. Thanks Les for helping us be Pic Masters.

    Hello,

    I have an idea to produce application boards like Arduino boards. Maybe we get some founds by selling these boards.
    Lets choose any MCU and any peripheral devices for this idea.

    Hello,
    Happy New Year.
    I am not on FB therefore cannot follow Proton on FB. I like the idea of supporting Les. Thanks Les for all your great work over the years!!
    But I cannot understand why we cannot purchase an upgrade every 2 years for example. We use EasyPC for PCB layouts and they have a new version every year even there are minor improvements.
    I guess that's how they try to keep a small company moving.
    As we bought the license as a company the company benefits from all the upgrades over the many years. To argue a donation within the company is very difficult let's say it's impossible. To say we need to buy an upgrade is easy.

    Did my small contribution.

    Haha.... Eilsel Nosnhoj, is reversed Johnson Leslie.

    I just added to links in these sticky posts here, until a proper button is done. Hope I did not infringe any rule.
