    Default Can't upgrade my compiler

I'm a long time registered user with an older compiler (v3.5.5.3) and even older USB key (11 years old). I haven't run my compiler in several years, and I seem to recall I needed a patch that I never installed. I tried this evening to revisit some old programs and none would compile, complaining it was "Unable to find PrPrc.exe - Make sure it's located in the includes folder".

Then I logged into the website and attempted to upgrade twice, but was unsuccessful, even with a reboot between attempts.

    I have Win7 Professional 64-bit O.S. with 835GB free on the disk.

I attempted "running" and then "opening" Proton Compiler Setup 3.6.0.2_1.0.4.4. (Full install, not the patch).

Both times a vbdownloads.php - Notepad window opens up, and the hard drive "chugs" for about 5 minutes. Then the notepad window eventually shows some nonsense characters, among which is the string "This program cannot be run in DOS mode. An then the "chugging" goes quiet.

I've done some forum searches, and people have generally been advised to do what I did, but it's not working for me.

Can someone please advise where I'm going wrong in updating my PDS?

Use Firefox to download the latest version or change the .php to .exe.

Hi Bob, I use Firefox and I've never needed to rename.

There seems to be a problem with Internet Explorer George. As well as the two solutions I suggested in my previous post, you can add www.protonbasic.co.uk to the Compatibility View Settings in IE. There are no issues with Chrome as far as I know.

Wouldv'e been nice if there was a little "heads up" in the download procedure regarding this little item. Couldv'e saved me an evening of pharting around.

Thanks Bob, I'll retry this evening.

I can download the latest installer, correct? Or do I need to download a previous version and sequentially upgrade?

With latest version of IE running Windows 10 the file name downloads as it should, no need to rename.

    Update:

I was able to successfully upgrade my compiler by adding the Proton website to the compatibility settings in Internet Explorer, which automatically changed the .PHP extension to .EXE.

I then attempted to "run" the downloader, which failed. Downloading the file first then running it from my local drive worked.

    Thanks for the suggestions everybody.

Good thing these computers are just a passing fad!
