Default Bad Key or Upgrade issue?

After applying the most recent upgrade:3.5.9.9 Proton began issuing the error: registration required for device. In this case a 16F1716

This is the normal verbose received when I forget to plug in the key.

I checked and device manager shows Sparkey is installed and operating normally - the red LED is illuminated on the Sparkey.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Proton and the key driver with no joy.

    The OS is Win7 64bit.

I visited the Crownhill Associates website and ordered a replacement key just in case it died at an odd moment.

I am working on a project that I need to get out the door quickly.

    Anyone have any other suggestions?

    Hi John,

Thank you so much -- but on my machine I don't see a tab.
Looked at the upgrade page but only a 3.6.0.2 "patch" is listed.

    Best,
    Robert

I applied the 3.6.0.3 patch and still no joy:

    The Sparkey is lit
There are no errors in the device manager
The correct Inf is associated with the correct SYS file
The USB registry keys look clean
    I reinstalled Proton
I just installed the newest version of Vegas -- so I don't want to do a system restore unless it is the last option.

I have an application that tracks changes in the registry. I may reinstall Proton to eye the registry writes to see if I can find a clue....

Other than that, will wait for the replacement Sparkey to arrive.

Robert, did you do a full install of 3.6.02 first before the patch was applied. It may be that the info file may be at fault. On my phone at present so it's a bit hard to do links.

Yes, but still unable to compile.

Will wait for the replacement sparkey and hope for the best.

Thank you for the help. Hope I can return the favor.

Had same problem some years ago. It was a faulty USB key. Once replaced everything worked fine.

Thanks to Crownhill and Royal Post - Proton is alive!

The replacement key arrived and all is back to normal - or as normal as it gets around the lab...

Thank you guys for all of your assistance!
