    Hi Rick,
Thanks for asking, I had the angiogram and was told I was not allowed to leave until I had the op (and no date when that is likely to be) so it was a bit of a shock as I was not aware it was that bad.
I managed to get my tablet, it is Windows 8.1 so runs PDS (and Arduino Shhh!), I have not tried it with dongle yet but it is good for typing and syntax checking so when I do get back home i can get playing as i will have plenty of spare time.

Wow! Sorry to hear the bad news. Look forward to the day that this all becomes a distant memory. Until then we'll keep you in our prayers.

Meanwhile, it looks like you've got lots of hackable stuff on the wall behind your bed. No telling what you could build out of those parts! If you can only get your hands on a soldering iron, screwdrivers, and a multimeter..........

    Hi John,
I am in Maidstone for the time being but waiting to be move to StThomas's, not in a rush as i am bricking it.
it's bed time here, you can have a bit of fun with the monitor as it shows your breathing, you can control it a bit like on an episode of star trek.
I was showing a friend at work by holding my breath and flat-lining it when he laughed and said, "what did Bob die of", "sodding around with the monitor sir".

    Hi Rick,
You are right there, but the real bit of kit was the scanner, I bet that would make a crackin CNC.
the bit around the neck is wifi for all the pads that they stick on for the ECG so at least you can move around a little.

    G'day Bob
Sounds like a zipper club membership coming up. Ten years ago for me. It's made a huge difference - fit as a mallee bull and twice as dangerous.
If I lived a bit closer I'd get a nurse to wash your mouth out with soap for mentioning that 'other' platform 😙
    Keep us posted.
    Cheers from Oz

I do hope you get well soon Bob, and keep your chin up mate. :-)

Remember, the compiler has lots of free devices, and the new version uploaded (version 3.6.0.0) has even more, so you can still compile fully without the dongle. The current free 8-bit devices are:

    10F200, 10F202, 10F204, 10F206, 10F222, 12F1552, 12F1572, 12F508, 12F508A, 12F509, 12F509A, 12F675, 12F683, 12LF1552, 12LF1572
    16F1614, 16LF1614, 16F1826, 16LF1826, 16F1829, 16LF1829, 16F18323, 16LF18323, 16F1937, 16LF1937, 16F627, 16LF627, 16F627A, 16LF627A,
    16F628, 16LF628, 16F628A, 16LF628A, 16F684, 16LF684, 16F685, 16LF685, 16F687, 16LF687, 16F688, 16LF688, 16F689, 16LF689, 16F84, 16F84A,
    16F87, 16LF87, 16F88, 16LF88, 16F876, 16F876A, 16F877, 16F877A, 16F882, 16F883, 16F884, 16F886, 16F887,
    18F13K50, 18LF13K50, 18F14K50, 18LF14K50, 18F252, 18LF252, 18F2550, 18LF2550, 18F25K20, 18LF25K20, 18F25K22, 18LF25K22, 18F26K20, 18LF26K20,
    18F26K22, 18LF26K22, 18F452, 18LF452, 18F4550, 18LF4550, 18F45K20, 18LF45K20, 18F45K22, 18LF45K22, 18F46K20, 18LF46K20, 18F46K22, 18LF46K22

I'm going to make all the standard 14-bit core and older 12-bit core devices free to use, as they are now out of date, and even microchip are dropping them. But lots of people still use the 16F84 and 16F877 etc. And why not! If they work for you, then use them....

    Hi Les,
Thanks for the information, i did not know that there were so many devices free. What I normaly did was use the Amicus 18f25k20 to get the syntax until I got home where I had the dongle. Always worried about losing it.

I have just decide to throw out some 16C55 / 71 (JW) which were a lot of money in their day. Havent used them for years but I think I got sentimental.

I am also looking forward to your new boards, I know it is highly unlikely but is there a possibility you could cleverly include a socket which could have a CAN interface (MCP2551 or similar) if needed but used for something else if not required.

    Regards,
    Bob

I will let you know when I am "done" so to speak, at least I will have a lot of time for progamming, i think I was told 6 weeks recovery.

    Bob
