    Smile Request for 16F1773/6/7/8/9

Happy New Year (to all who follow the Gregorian calendar)!

I'd like to add a request for the 16F177x series, and more specifically the 16F1778 device.
This little micro has all the analogue ins and outs that my current project require, and it would help me keep the external component count to a minimum. So, a big "please" to Les if you can find the time...

    Kind regards,
    E

    See the URL:

Enhanced core PIC16F177X PPI and Def files

These are files that will allow support for devices:

    16F1773, 16F1776, 16F1777, 16F1778, 16F1779, 16LF1773, 16LF1776, 16LF1777, 16LF1778, 16LF1779

Unzip the file and copy the Includes directory into the compiler's PDS directory, adding to the existing folders and overwriting the files: 8bit_device.dll and 8bit_device.info.

WOW! That's what I call customer support. I think I'll buy another copy of PDS.
    Thanks a million!

    Good evening Eriond
I see this is a couple of years later.
I see you are the only member that has posted about this specific chip.
Did you have to set the CONFIG1 register?
I have done as Les said and copied those files, but it looks as if Proton doesn't recognize that register.

The config register(s) hold the configuration fuse settings that determine the primary setup of the device such as the oscillator type, brown out values, code protection, whether or not the Watchdog is not among others as applicable to the device.
The PPI files used but the compiler often have a basic (get you going) configuration that is used if you do not specifically set them your self. So in that regards you do not have to set them, however the basic setup may not be suitable for your application and unless you look at the files you will not know exactly how it is set up.
Therefore, it is always best to set them yourself, if you have not already done so I recommend installing the Fuse Configurator plug-in that can be found here, it is very useful, the majority of Proton users have it and it will have avoid many errors with syntax & fuse names. There are several different ways the Fuse configurator can output the fuse data depending on your preference but a typical output would be like this...
    Code:
    Config1 FOSC_ECH, WDTE_ON, PWRTE_OFF, MCLRE_ON, CP_OFF, BOREN_ON, CLKOUTEN_OFF, IESO_ON, FCMEN_ON
    Config2 WRT_OFF, PPS1WAY_ON, ZCD_OFF, PLLEN_ON, STVREN_ON, BORV_LO, LPBOR_OFF, LVP_ON
Alternatively, you could install the new Proton Studio IDE (see here), that is written by the same person (requires an installation of Proton to function). It has the fuse configurator built in as well as many other useful features such as bookmarks, PDF viewer, Project Manager and Code Folding. But do note that it is still under development and so you may encounter the occasional problem during use.
