I forget to report on the unit! I'm impressed, it does the job quite well, the main limitation is that it is not binocular, so you don't see in 3D. Additional side lighting is sometimes useful to illuminate the work to augment the small circular light provided. John

When I solder smd components I use two 3x magnification glasses behind each other on my nose and then 3D viewing is simply allready difficult.
So it isn't a big leap to use a microscope.

Occasionally I use an old set of glasses in front of my latest pair. Works OK. Looks a bit funny.

Most of the times the last set of glasses drops from my nose, to the ground, and thats not funny.

Yesterday I got finally my microscope, what an enlightening, I could instandly read the tiny numbers ie. 153 (15kOhm).
And important, no reverse movement if you move an pcb or component.

Always put the old set at the front
I wouldn't mind a microscope but I use a multimeter (colour problem) and if it's for soldering then my shaky hand is making soldering of small parts b!@#$%y hard. I hit the part as the wobble goes past if i'm lucky. I need bigger parts.

I try at most that my both hands are touched together that eliminates movements, and fix my smd board, and pre-solder very little on one smd-pad of the pcb.
If there is just enough solder on pcb, I add a little bit Solder-Flux with a small pensel and solder the first 'pin' from the smd to make the final joint,
and solder again for some corrections, and adding more flux if needed, then I solder the rest of the pin's of the smd component.
