Default Proton IDE Compiler wont run/Crashes when IDE is run on my Windows 7

    Hi Guys,
I have the Proton IDE running on a 2000 machine and works fine, it also worked fine on XP until machine broke down. Loaded it onto a new Windows 7 machine and apart from a bit of a problem sorting the dongle everything seemed to be fine. However when I tried to compile, it crashed. The compiler PR_Plus is in the PDS folder and clicking directly on it does not work either. However PR_Plus_MPLAB seems to work fine. Clicking on PR_Plus on the 2000 machine it worked fine.
It seemed a simple solution to copy the PR_Plus file from the 2000 machine to the Windows 7 PC. Sadly it did not work.
    Please help
    Regards

And do you have the latest copy of MPLAB (TM)? I think earlier versions will not work
I know I left my memory somewhere, I just cannot remember where

    Hi Guys
Many thanks for your interest and prompt reply
After I installed Proton IDE I used the Online Update to hoplefully get the latest version.
First, in case you cant read the image Proton IDE is 1.0.3.6
Proton + Basic Compiler 3.1.0.9. I hope this is the info you need Tim.
More recently I loaded Proton IDE onto my Laptop which is Vista and have the same problem.
Could I have the wrong compiler file for Vista and Windows 7 and if so maybe you could direct me to the correct one
PR_PLUS_MPLAB seems to work fine so I doubt if the MPLAB is at fault

The online updates are not used any more. You have to update manually. You are a licensed user so go to the Beta area and get the latest and greatest.

You will also need MPLAB V8.63 or above to use the latest versions.

Why? So the latest version won't compile if you have versions of MPLAB prior 8.63? Where does it say that? Sure you won't be able to compile the latest chips but for all the chips produced up to a couple of years ago I thought the latest compiler would work with MPLAB v7. Maybe I overlooked something?

The compiler does not need any part of MPLAB in order to run, as it is self contained.

You will require later versions of MPLAB in order to simulate the newer devices however.
