Default help needed. 16f84a midi in

only a week or 2 into picland and not really come to terms with how vast it is... i am trying to read midi data from a keyboard and computer into a single pin (rb6) and display a meaningful interpretation (note number,on/off and velocity) on an lcd. i have a 16f84a at 4mhz and picbasic pro trial version. i have the lcd working. i do not have a working opto isolator (is this essential?). grateful for any help with circuits or code. thanks.

If you appreciate there is a difference, then you appreciate it is the wrong forum ..
IF you want to know if midi is available to you in PDS, then yes, of course it is - if you program the input yourself. - does PDS support it directly - NO - . it doesnt.

I would certainly suggest PDS, without doubt.. so feel free to go ahead and purchase the product - I am sure with a thorough understanding on your part of the MIDI protocol, we will be able to help you do what you need to do . Buy the product, read the manual, understand MIDI, understand the PIC datasheet and functionality that you are using, use the sample routines, learn, then code your first trials, then ask for support.. no worries.

The PDS has a number of advantages over competitors.
    (1) it produces very tight code
    (2) reasonable cost then FREE updates
    (3) the developer is active on the forum and responds to any issues
    (4) supports plugins and there are a number of excellent ones
    (5) a lot of people who will provide support through this forum once you are a licensed user
    (6) compiler is VERY powerful

I and all the moderators are volunteers we give our time because we believe in the quality of the product.
The Forum's licensed users are a very helpful lot and many are professional programmers with a huge knowledge base, but don't expect us to do all the work for you though, we'll stand alongside with a guiding hand while you do the work. It's the best way to learn.
    Best wishes
