If it helps i filled it out , dunno what the reluctance would be , after all your not asking for SSID's or postcodes or owt, whats the big deal.

I'd put it down to idleness rather than reluctance after all anyone with a smart phone is sharing this info and a hell of a lot more with apple / google.

John, don't go there!, I mentioned twitter once, and i think i got away with it....by the skin of my teeth. On this forum the use of new technology is like heresy!, go there at your peril.
Not true Lester I been whining on for a PIC32 compiler for ages 8bit darkages ; lol j/k

Lester - so far I have gathered in three more responses from homes of friends. They are not members of the Forum
I have contacted two of my friends who are members and will encourage their participation.
    John

Do you have access to a WiFi network?

    3 - yes

How many networks can you see?
    Each can see only one

What frequency band do you use?
    All use 2400MHz

    Do you use encryption?
    All 3 yes.

If you use encrytion, what type?
WEP for all three (I set two of them up)

What data rates do you get?
    Downloads of approx 450KBytes/sec, 600KB/sec, 800KB/sec

How reliable is your WiFi connection?
    All are very reliable

Last question - Your Location?...... work/home/travelling & country or global region
All three are home networks in and near a small country town in South Australia. Two are ADSL connections with a WIFI router while the first is a WIFI connection from our major provider in Australia (he also has a home WIFI network too).
The WIFI provider connection seems to have greater redundancy than those coming from ADSL but speed is OK at 450KB/sec.

Perhaps a lot of people just don't know what frequency band, type of encryption or data rates they are getting. They just installed any software that came with there hub and that set everything up for them and so they don't respond as they feel a fist full of "Don't know it just works" answers will not be much use.

The frequency band options "Mainly 2.4GHz rarely 5GHz" and "Mainly 5GHz rarely 2.4GHz" seems to my mind somewhat redundant bacause...
    1) If you can switch it I am sure most people who know that is an option would set to the frequency that works the best and leave it there and thus pick the frequency they are using.
    2) If dynamic switching is occuring automatically how would you know which band it is using the most?

But I don't that much about such things, as long at it works I don't did into to deeply.

John , thanks for your additional input

I now have just over 100 responses. so thank you to all those that completed the questionnaire. It has been very useful to me. The feedback has been useful, its a personal academic project - nothing related tot he forum or Proton..the response has been enlightening.

I have removed the request for help, i'll close this thread shortly.
