I realise that I may be preaching to the converted...
Are you aware of the BT-FON partnership. where BT Total broadband users can share their site, in exchange for access to other sites around the country?
Have a look at the BT Fon website for more details.
they have done a certain amount of mapping of the country which might help you.
Obviously other service providers do exist. etc. (Standard Disclaimer....)

However the information available on that site paints an interesting picture.
I will enclose a few screen shots if I can.

1) YES, the results are for our own use. Its a project that i'm working on. the information will not be made available publicly AND the results that i get are NOT identifiable to you or even your forum nickname.
as an example, this is ALL that i get from the questionaire

*We Need Your Help!* *Do you have access to a WiFi network* Yes *How many networks can you see?* 6 - 10 Networks *What Frequency Band do you use?* Always 2.4Ghz *Do you use encryption?* Yes - always *If you use encrytion, what type?* WEP *What data rates do you get?* 3 - 10 Mb/s *How reliable is your WiFi connection?* Mostly good, fails sometimes *Last question - Your Location* At Work (UK)

2) yes i'm aware of the BT-Fon partnership and the published data.

I'm really disappointed with the response. Its not often that i ask for anything from the forum users. I've had a better response from the users of picbasic.co.uk, its really amazing that our own customers cant be bothered to lend a little assistance.
