Thread: "USB Key not found" error message

Default "USB Key not found" error message

    Hi all

A new Proton error message "USB Key not found" arose recently. The USB key was returned to Crownhill, and tested and found to be ok. A new key was sent by return of post, thanks Lester!

The problem really turns out to be anti-virus protection, Sophos Security, which thought that Proton editing was ok, but launching the Compiler (a separate Windows process) looked like suspicious behaviour (similar to launching a trojan).

Turning off suspicious behaviour detection when compiling is a work-around.

    HTH,
    Mark

Default Re: "USB Key not found" error message

Mark, thank you for taking time to post this result.

Many users who have 'issues' with the USB key, blame the driver or some other cause, but in our experience its usually AntiVirus. Infact the drivers all pass Microsoft Hql tests, and the win vista and 7 are MS signed, so very unlikely to be at fault

Only 1 or 2 keys per year are actually faulty.

It is important to remember that The IDE calls the compiler and the compiler spawns new applications during the compilation process, so to an over zealous Anti Virus, it looks like a trojan.
