Default ERROR: Security key not present

    ERROR: Security key not present

    Hello chaps

Hi, its great to see you visiting our forum. Why not try Proton Compiler for FREE?

Download the FREE version of Proton Compiler, Its called Amicus18 and its available from HERE

Already using proton Compiler??? Get rid of these pesky messages... get LICENSED USER STATUS

I have two PC's at work, one upstairs where I can code in comfort, and one downstairs in the workshop where all testing/assembly is done. I thought I would be able to use the dongle on both machines, just moving them between PCs as I do, but it doesn't seem to want to work on the downstairs machine. Is the dongle locked to one machine?

If not, what could the issue be? I see lots of USB Key not found errors, but none like what what you see at the top of this post.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks
    Simon

No, it is not locked to a single machine--that's the whole point of a key. If it says the key is not present, then it must not be installed properly.

You might also consider getting one of the programs that permits key sharing over a network so you don't have to carry it around. That might kill two birds with one stone.

The driver installs just fine....wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that I'm accessing the .bas file over the network.
The normal error for a missing dongle is USB key not found, not SECURITY KEY....

I compile network files regularly--but have had enough issues with it that we now usually make local copies. On the other hand, we have also been able to have two guys tag-teaming, editing the same file on the network, taking turns on two different areas.

I'm sure Les/Lester will need to know your OS to help further.

    To be clear:

you should have no problem using the USB key on two machines in differnet parts of your building, or anywhere else, the key is portable and is NOT locked to a machine
You should have no problem compileing a .bas file that has been pulled over the network onto your local machine.
you can compile the file if its on a mapped drive, too. i.e the .bas file is on a remote drive somewhere on the network.
I prefer to compile locally, so i use Goodsync from siber systems to keep the files on the local and remote machine syncronised.

Please check that all is well and the comoiler will compile the file locally with no 'USB Key not found' error.

Please then map the remote drive and compile the file on the remote drive mapped to your local machine.

If you still have issues, i'll duplicate your setup and try to replicate them. Its a while since i did this, but last time i checked compileing on a mapped drive worked just fine.
