    Default Components in the USA

    Hi

Australian after a little help here.

I shall be spending the next month in Tennessee, about half way between Chattanooga and Knoxville, Proton shall be well used during the month.

Question: What is the quickest cheapest supplier of electronic components in the area?

I could not find a lot with a web search for Chattanooga or Knoxville, so I guess mail or courier will have to do, any advice?

    Ken

I think that's just about in Don Stratton's back yard, and Llamabob is not far south of there. You might want to send them both a PM. They might have some good sources for you.

Mouser is nice because they do not have a minimum order charge. Their web site says they'll ship orders placed before 6pm (or something like that...) but the reality is you have to get your order in at least 15 minutes early to really be sure it ships that day. They do NOT keep to the minute on their shipping promises. On the bright side, their prices are almost always a bit better than Digikey. Mouser is in TX, I believe, so shipping won't be too far.

Digikey has better customer service in that they fill ALL orders placed by their end time (assuming they have the parts). If you hit "confirm order" at 5:59, it ships that same day! They charge $5 for orders smaller than $25 though. Being in MN, they are only slightly farther than Mouser (to TN), so shipping is probably about the same price.

Jameco has the worst delivery, since you must order by 2pm Pacific time. They also have the smallest stock. However, there are a few things that are a bit cheaper with better selection. Since they are in CA, the shipping is likely to be higher for you.

If you are looking for some type of local B&M store, there may be a Fry's Electronics near the area. I live in Indiana and they are around here; where you're staying is about 4 hours from where I live. Fry's has a lot of misc items for prototyping, although not the best prices.
