I was going to subscribe to the Solicon Chip mag, because the UK EPE magazine is simply a 90% copy of it when it comes to projects, and EPE has fallen a lot in the last few years. However, it seems that a subscriber to silicon chip also has to pay for any source that is in the magazine as a project. Is that true John?

    Les,
Once you have a subscription you then have full access to articles in pdf form. Or more correctly, whenever I've wanted a file it's been available so I assume it's all available.
I'll do a double check and edit this post.

    .
The above is not correct. Here is the FAQ on availability. The articles aren't in PDF, they are HTML or use Flash

A: You get access to the issues for the dates that you subscribe. For example, if you sign up for a 12 month online subscription starting in January 2013, then you get access to all twelve issues published during 2013, including immediate access to any which have already been published.

For access to older issues, you will need to purchase back-issues which are discounted for active subscribers. You can also purchase back-issues while subscribing to receive the same discount.
We plan to offer access to blocks of online issues (eg, twelve from one calendar year) at a discounted rate, comparable to that for an online subscription but do not currently have that option.

Within copyright rulesI believe that up to 10% of a publication can be copied for research or education purposes. In which case a friend of someone on this forum is able to copy an article for that purpose and send it via private email to that person. At the same time encouraging them to take out a subscription for the excellent magazine that is SC.
