I suppose the real difficulty with the Theremin or anything that is played using hand positions, is that it is so bloody difficult to position your hands with the accuracy needed. You could make the software play the "nearest" note from a scale so that a steady sweep of the hand would play the half-tones in sequence, up or down.

Well, if there's one thing that I do not associate with a theremin-thingy it is accuracy.
It is renowned for its gliding tone. Just listen to good vibrations by the Beach Boys. Do some surfing on the internet...

I would have trouble just standing still for that length of time but my shaky hands would be great at the tremelo.
Silicon Chip magazine has produced a couple of Theremin designs.

Yes John. I know about one of them (march 2009). This one was also in Everyday Popular Electronics (the republish every silicon chips project).
I tried to build it but failed. I think this was because the filters I bought must have been wrong or even broken because the oscillators refused to work...

BTW you can always sit down -

    Regard, Harm

    Hello Harm,
Silicon Chip seem to have quite a thing going with Theremins.
After the 2009 issue there are the following articles:
Sept/Oct 2014 Arduino based digital Theremin,
January 2017 Giving the Ultrasonic Theremin a volume control
January 2018 Make your own Theremin then make music!

I am a subscriber so if I can help in any way yell out. I have the paper copies.
    Best wishes
    John

    Hello John,
I do have a copy of the 2018 issue, If you could be so kind to make a photograph (or scan) of the other two I would like that very much.

    Regards
    Harm
