It launches, I get no icons but can load my programs.

it doesn't seem to see the usb stick, & fonts are funky but readable.

when I remove & re-insert the usb stick I get:

usb 1-3: USB disconnect, address 4

meaningless to me. but Its a dead end since it won't compile without it.

any help would be greatly appreciated as I have grown fond of proton.
I would really like to use pds in linux as windows trashed its own filesystem and it took 2 hours off & on to repair it - from with in linux because windows didn't even recognise its own filesystem.
so I am not using windows anymore. Proton is the only windows application that I still need.

Not on Wine but I have run it on an XP session under VMware / Fedora Core 5 !!

I too would like to run PDS under Linux/Wine (Ubuntu Feisty 7.04) as I am weaning myself off of Windows for my development machine. The demo seems to work, but the full product doesn't recognize the USB key. When I plug in the USB key, it lights briefly and then the LED goes out. By contrast, the LED remains lit under Windows. Is there some type of driver that is required under Linux for the key to work? Using VMware could be an option, but I'd really like to get away from having to run Windows.

I also tried to run PDS under Ubuntu 7.04. I used wine (which did not recognize the USB key), VirtualBox (wich was way to slow, but worked*), and even tried VMware (I was not able to get Vmware working at all, but I tried it).

So if your computer is fast enough (faster than my celeron1400 / 512mb ram, that shouldn't be to hard ) Virtualbox (and a windows install in it) should be the solution.

But if anyone finds a better solution please tell me, as I am now using a secondary computer running windows, which is a far-from-ideal situation (but it works).

*= well, it did not recognize the USB key as I could not get the USB drivers installed, but it should work if your computer is fast enough to allow you to install the USB drivers.

I have to keep a machine on windoze for the old LPKF but my coding machine usually runs Ubuntu and I hate going back to windoze (Not having a moan les, Dude i love your work. But surely if you can make proton compile basic tighter than a dolphins waste flaps then surely a linux friendly spark driver would be a walk in the park!?)

Microchip have released Pickit2 Software for linux (they dont "Support" it but its there and it works. I found it to be ok.... Diptrace is Wine Friendly....

Just waitin for the spark key and Cam Master ohh and we'd be buggrd without board master.

All i want for christmas is a linux spark key.....Come on you know the words, Sing along!!

Crownhill supplied ME with MY Sparkey dongle and driver... Why would I go elsewhere to ask about one for linux???
