I accept that Lester would be right, as he wrote it
But I cannot see how the sparkey.inf file on the disc does not work whereas the one posted does.

My understanding is: the .inf file is merely an information file and a pointer to the .sys file which is in the drivers folder.

If all the PDS Cds are pressed by a disc plant, why would there be any corruption and why are so many people reporting this problem.

I personally have used Proton for several years and have never had a single problem, IF i put the key in AFTER the installation. perhaps this is the problem - if people put the key in before install, they come to this forum , download the new files, and in effect it is being reinstalled - problem solved. or perhaps not

Hi, its great to see you visiting our forum. Why not try Proton Compiler for FREE?

Download the FREE version of Proton Compiler, Its called Amicus18 and its available from HERE

Already using proton Compiler??? Get rid of these pesky messages... get LICENSED USER STATUS

The only difference between the posted sparkey.inf and the sparkey.inf on my system is one line of code:
    ClassGuid={36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000}
Maybe some builds of windows complain about the lack of this line while others don't?

    Most strange...

I dont have time to go into the why's and why nots. BUT AFAIK the line ClassGuid={36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000} refers to the HUB not the sparkey device.

Its a case of the hub device ( that could be the chipset on the mother board, not just an external hub) hanging onto or the windows system not correctly assigning the driver to the correct hub / port.

AFAIK, Its a known issue that sometimes windows does not recognise a device, especially but not always after a resume from sleep.

I understand that you can fix the issue by adding the forceHCResetOnResume registry value for the USB universal host controller concerned.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000}\0000

Note: Four-digit_number at the end is the registry subkey that represents the specific USB universal host controller.

My understanding is that the driver is being associated with the worng USB port/hub and it needs a windows system ( no a reboot is not the same) refresh/reset to get windows to correctly associate it.

BUT this is a FIX for an issue unrelated to the Sparkey driver, its fixing the probelm associated with certain hardware.

What i'm saying here is that the unerlying issue needs fixing Adding that line in the sparkey driver is a work around.

The probelm is outside of the scope of support that we offer in relation to PDS.

I see that its still an issue in VISTA, and Microsoft have a manual fix and a hot fix for it in VISTA, but not in XP.

    Default USB Dongle

    Hi,

I just installed the development suite and initially it did not detect the dongle. I read the instructions and didn't plug it in until after installing the software. I remove the dongle and tried again, this time it did detect it, but didn't find the driver. It wasn't installed in either of the folders suggested on the insert.

I then pointed the system to the CD and it found the driver and I was able to update the software. However it seems a bit hit and miss.

I loaded the "Hello World" sample, hit the Compile Only toolbar button and the error "USB Key Not Found" message was shown.

    Dongle is in and lit.

I'm running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3.

[Edit] I pulled the dongle and put it back in and this sorted it out.

    Thank you,
    Sy
    Regards,
    Sy

My initial suspicion was right, the .INF file is crap!

Having spent several hours today to investigate the problem in depth I have found the solution.

The cause of the trouble simply is a missing ClassGuid definition in the SPARKEY.INF file.

attached is a working version of the .INF file.

It has been tested on different environments that refused to install the Driver with the original .INF file.

(Replace the existing sparkey.inf in \windows\inf with the attached version)
I had also problems with installing the sparkey dongle and spend several hours to fix it with no result. Your my livesaver . Now it works fine. Only very unprofessional that Crownhill / Proton doesn`t fix this mayor bug. I`ve bought the Proton suite Jan. 2010 !!!
    Thanx again.
