    That's a different clock. I'm talking about driving the timer not from it's own chrystal. Read about it in the datasheet. You might also use Timer0 which can count up to 1 sec even with 64MHz clock.

    If you use 32k external clock source, timer 1 will overflow every two seconds. By setting bit 15 of timer1 when it overflows you reduce the time to one sec.
