Forum Use - General

The main focus of the picbasic.org discussion forum is to create an open communication channel among all of our users, allowing Crownhill and our more established users to help and assist in supporting the compiler products. For those new to this forum as well as the established and experienced users, having the ability to network with your peers working in parallel fields is extremely valuable. Here are some guidelines and tips for using the picbasic.org discussion forum.

1. Posting a reply. Many threads (sets of messages all on the same topic) include sub-conversations within the original posting. When you're ready to respond, select the "Post A Reply" option (not the "Post A New Message" option) and make sure that you're currently reading the post to which you want to reply. Some posts get lost because a user will attach it to a wrong original post, or post a whole new message when they wanted to post a reply to a particular thread.

2. Starting a new thread. Nothing solicits forum responses more than a well thought-out problem statement (in the form of a question), accompanied by as much data as possible. Try to make use of vB code to enhance the readability of your post. VB code is a set of tags based on the HTML language that you may already be familiar with. They allow you to add formatting to your messages in the same way as HTML does, but have a simpler syntax and will never break the layout of the pages you are viewing.

3. Search before you post. Many questions have been asked on the forum before. Prior to posting, readers should take time to determine if a similar topic has been previously discussed. Use the search facility before posting.

4. Stay on topic. Replies should be answers to the original question. Try not to create sub-conversations in a thread as it complicates reading and really doesn't belong in the thread. If you have a discussion topic that was suggested from reading a thread, start a new thread.

5. Be considerate to others. It should go without saying that you should treat others as you would like to be treated. Picbasic.org administrators and moderators are authorized to edit or delete swearing, name calling or other inappropriate language including anything deemed rude, obnoxious or abusive. Moderators also have the ability in extreme or repetitive cases to ban users from posting to the discussion forum entirely. Though in most cases users will be left with the ability to read the forum. Remember when posting that school children through to aged adults will have access to your posts, one offensive remark can result in your whole post being removed, no mater how valid the content is.

6. Do not abuse the forum. Do not post under many screen names in order to support your position. Do not try to deceive. Do no harm. We track information associated with each post and abuse will not be tolerated.

7. Do not promote products, services or businesses in inappropriate sections of the forum. The picbasic.org forum has a section for business advertising. Posting business advertisements outside of that section is an abuse. Violators will have their post removed and could be banned from further postings.
